  • We’re located on a private island on Sproat Lake, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

  • Accessible by vehicle, boat or float plane.  You can drive directly to the island on a scenic forestry road, private driveway and bridge.  Detailed directions are provided upon booking.

    Private Pontoon boat transfers are a popular way to arrive and allows you to explore Sproat Lake and the remote Taylor Arm along the way.  Contact The Fish and Duck Resort directly to arrange Pontoon boat transfers.  For private boats, there are several public boat launches on Sproat Lake.  Follow directions up Taylor Arm and arrive at your private island in style.  There is available protected mooring on site.

    Arrive via float plane.  Harbour Air offers direct flights to Sunset Island Resort through a private charter.  Pacific Seaplanes offers flights from Vancouver airport to Sproat Lake.

  • Your booking includes exclusive access to the entire island: Chalet, chalet suite, The Love Shack, nine tent sites, 2 docks, beaches, hot tub, events lawn, lakeside stage, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, and more. Just your group, nobody else.

  • The resort sleeps up to 18 in cabins, with additional space for tents and houseboats to expand your group’s capacity.

  • No. Sunset Island Resort is offered as a full island group rental only—we do not rent individual cabins or suites separately.

  • We’re ideal for family gatherings, reunions, wellness retreats, very small or intimate weddings, and milestone celebrations. Events must be pre-approved and respectful of the property and surroundings. Island capacity is 30 guests.

  • Yes, there is Starlink high speed WIFI covering all the facilities and most of the island. There is no cell service on the island, however there is in the middle of the lake and 2km down the access road.

  • Main Chalet has 2 full fridges, propane stove and oven, bbq, kitchen appliances.

    Outdoor kitchen has 2 bbq’s.

    Love Shack has bbq, hot plate, sink, half fridge.

    Chalet Suite has hot plate, half fridge.

    Bring coolers for extra food storage. New outdoor kitchen coming 2026.

    Some Port Alberni restaurants will deliver if arranged before.

  • Cabins include fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes, full bathrooms, comfortable beds, and lakeside decks. The main chalet also features a BBQ, fire pit, solarium, and more.

  • Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own boat—there are docks on the island and beach moorage. Houseboat and boat rentals are available from Fish & Duck Marina.

  • Yes! Sproat Lake is known for rainbow trout, cutthroat, and kokanee. You can fish from the dock or explore nearby rivers.

  • Bring your food, drinks, towels, and any specialty gear you might want (fishing, paddleboards, etc.). Bedding and basic supplies are included, and a detailed packing guide is sent after booking.

  • Definitely. Families love the calm water bays, open spaces, and safe environment for kids to explore and play.

  • Sorry, no pets.

  • Check-in is at 4 PM and check-out is at 10 AM. Early check-in or late departure may be possible depending on availability.

  • Sunset Island Resort is generally open seasonally from April 1st - November 1st. Off-season stays may be available upon request.

  • Yes. There is an AED, first aid kits, spine board and naloxone kits on site.

  • Sunset Island Resort is fully off grid and powered by its own micro-hydro site. This generated power is stored in battery banks and powers your experience on the island.  A generator is also on site to boost as needed and provide backup.

  • Water is sourced from a nearby mountain river. Water is UV treated on site.

  • Yes—moderate music is welcome. We ask guests to be mindful of volume and adhere to local noise bylaws out of respect for lake neighbors.

  • Bedding is provided for all beds. Guests should bring their own beach and bath towels.

  • The main chalet has two full bathrooms. Chalet suite has a sink and toilet, but no shower.  Love Shack has a sink, outdoor tub, shower and a compost toilet. There is a shower and flushing toilet in the middle of the island and 3 portable toilets near some camp sites and the main common area.

  • Yes—there is a large lakeside fire pit and we supply the wood. Campfires are subject to seasonal fire bans, so always check local conditions before lighting one. A propane firepit and gas are provided for the main firepit. There’s also portable gas firepits at the main chalet deck and dock gazebo.

  • No—Sunset Island is entirely yours during your stay. However, staff are nearby and available for assistance if needed.
